Meet The Expert: Baijanti Thakur (Teacher)

Let’s get to know our teaching expert for the day!

Meet Baijanti Thakur, our expert for the day. It has been more than a decade since Baijanti started her career as a teacher. Baijanti believes she was destined to become a teacher as she never had a plan of pursuing this career. She aspired of getting herself into the accounts domain but her love for children inspired her to become a teacher. Looking back at those early days of teaching in a pre-primary school only makes her feel grateful of what destiny has offered her without she even asking for it.

Teachers have three loves: love of learning, love of learners, and the love of bringing the first two loves together.” – Scott Hayden

Her understanding of child care shows how kind and compassionate of a person she actually is. Let’s know more of her from the teacher herself:

The bonding of a teacher and her students

How do you feel about teaching preschool children as a teacher?

It feels great. As a teacher I take immense pride in what I am doing. It gives me a different sense of joy and contentment doing what I love for beings who I accidentally fell so much in love with. I feel teaching kids or even just staying around them is mostly about receiving and getting rewarded in ways that one can never imagine.

Children are smarter, compassionate and sometimes even more knowledgeable than us. Each day I feel I am learning something new from them. It can be as serious as looking at things from a different perspective or learning the use of technologies and sometimes, as simple as being kind and developing listening skills altogether. As a teacher I always aim at giving my best and learning new skills and techniques to help myself evolve and provide better education to kids.

What keeps you motivated to keep going as a teacher?

It is the love for kids and the love I get in return from them that keeps me going. I have always had a vision of giving a safe, comfortable and playful environment to children in my teaching career. I believe in making a significant change in our previous education pattern where kids were treated by teachers in an unacceptable manner. If you have love for children then make a mark in the education industry and bring a much needed revolution. This will help the younger generation feel protected and become confident as individuals. All these thoughts keep me motivated and very much on the track as a teacher no matter how difficult few days may look like.

What challenges are today’s age parents facing in bringing up their kids in your experience?

Lack of work-life balance, the need to keep up with the societal pressures and unrealistic expectations are very much the most significant challenges that most modern parents are facing in bringing up their kids. Also, the unsolicited suggestions and opinions coming from different sources apart from the inflow of too much of information on the internet are few other reasons attributing to the issues faced by parents in taking care of their children. Lack of time maintenance and the failure to spend quality time with children and inability to listen and understand them should be consciously eliminated to help the children get a better upbringing and become positive headed individuals as grown-ups.

Is it okay for parents to be harsh with their kids?

I don’t really feel so but yes, we can’t be judgmental of a parent’s situation. We never know what incident might have taken place and what exactly they have been going through at that point of time. Hitting children, being abusive with them or saying harsh words to them is unacceptable. Parents should also try to keep their little kids away from such chaos taking place at home. Teach them to love and value relationships and develop an understanding for one another whenever things go haywire. Kids should be gently dealt with and parents should never try and lose their calm while raising their little berries.

Parents often tend to compare their kid’s performance with other kids and have unrealistic expectations of them. What do you have to say about this?

Comparisons are unnecessary and having expectations of anyone is always going to bring loads of disappointment. Letting kids exist and bloom in their own time and space is important. Also, pressurizing kids is unacceptable. Parents should rather try to focus on being themselves as perfect guardians and encourage children to learn and practice new skills apart from spending quality time with them, teaching moral values and blessing them with quality education in life.

Understanding children is important for a teacher

To sum up, I would like to say that parents always want the best for their kids. However, sometimes our expression of love might explain otherwise. So, as parents please be more cautious and develop an understanding with your kids. This will help you develop a strong bond with them and raise them as confident beings. Always remember every child is unique and different in their own way and having them in life is no less than a blessing in disguise.
